Bearing Our Diseases
So far the global death toll from Covid-19 has exceeded 200,000, and the number of confirmed cases has exceeded three million. Facing these cruel numbers and the terrifying virus, we can’t help but sigh. Life in the face of disease is so fragile and vulnerable.
In the news we have seen patients who are currently being isolated. Although they are separated by glass and wear face masks, their eyes betray their inner fear and helplessness. They desperately hope for a cure, for someone to save them, to pull them back from the brink of death. They desperately hope to grab onto a life preserver that can save their lives.
The Gospel of Matthew in the Bible says that the Lord Jesus “Himself took away our infirmities and bore our diseases” (8:17). Christ died on behalf of us sinners. He bore our diseases and took on our pains. Dear friend, when you are sick, when you are in pain, please know that the Lord Jesus is the Savior who bears your sickness. He can bear all your sickness and all your pains. He is Your secure “life preserver.” You must firmly grab onto Him and hand over your sickness into His hands, allowing Him to bear all your weaknesses. Today, in these times of crisis, please do not waver and hesitate any more. You need to receive Him and look to the Lord Jesus, who bore our diseases. Then you will find rest in Him, because He will take away all your weaknesses and bear your sickness, so you may live a worthwhile, meaningful, peaceful, and joyful life.
Let us pray together: “O Lord, I need You. You are the Savior who bears our diseases. You Yourself took away my weaknesses and bore my sickness. O Lord, I trust in Your healing.”
