Who Is Jesus? Listen to What Jesus Himself Said

Who is Jesus? You may have heard many people’s ideas about Him, but have you heard what Jesus Himself has to say?

  1. The Bread of Life.  Jesus said: “I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me shall by no means hunger, and he who believes into Me shall by no means ever thirst” (John 6:35). The bread of life is Christ in the form of food to be man’s life supply. The Bible uses hunger to denote man’s dissatisfaction. To solve man’s dissatisfaction, there is the need for food. Christ is the bread of life. Thus, whenever you touch Christ as life, you are immediately satisfied.
  1. The Light of the World.  Jesus said: “I am the light of the world; he who follows Me shall by no means walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12). The light of life is the sense of life within man, the shining within man, that delivers man from sin. Whenever the Lord Jesus is in our midst, light is in our midst, and He as light will walk in our midst.
  1. The Good Shepherd.  Jesus said: “I have come that they may have life and may have it abundantly. I am the good Shepherd; the good Shepherd lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:10-11). The Lord laid down His soul, which is His human life, to accomplish redemption for His sheep so that they may partake of His life—the divine, eternal life—whereby they may become one flock under Him as the Shepherd.
  1. The Resurrection and the Life.  Jesus said: “I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes into Me, even if he should die, shall live” (John 11:25). Resurrection is superior to life. By itself, life can only exist, but resurrection can withstand any kind of attack, even the attack of death. Thus, the Lord is not only life, but He is also resurrection. Death cannot hold Him, because He is able to overcome death.
  1. The Way, the Reality, and the Life.  Jesus said: “I am the way and the reality and the life; no one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6). The way needs the reality, and the reality needs the life. The Lord Himself is the life to us. This life brings us the reality, and the reality becomes the way by which we enter into the enjoyment of God the Father.
  1. The Vine.  Jesus also said: “I am the vine; you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit; for apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5). Christ is the vine and we are the branches of this vine. This fact clearly indicates that we are a part of Christ. How great this is! God is life, and this life needs an organic body in which to grow and have an expression. This body is the organism of Christ and the church.
