A Breath of Fresh Air

COVID-19 Taking Man’s Breath Away

The English term “take one’s breath away”, especially in the medical application. That is exactly what the coronavirus does to a COVID-19 patient!

A patient may initially experience various symptoms from mild shortness of breath to increased breathing difficulty, eventually leading to the total absence of oxygen in the lungs until he gasps for his very last breath and dies.

God Giving Two Kinds of Breaths to Man

In the Bible, there are two instances wherein God breathed into man, two different kinds of breaths that resulted in man receiving two different kinds of lives.

The First Breath in God’s Creation to Receive the Human Life

Genesis 2:7 says, Jehovah God formed man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul.

God used two kinds of materials in creating man—the dust to make man’s body and the breath of life to produce man’s spirit. When these two things were put together, immediately man became a living soul.

The Second Breath in Christ’s Resurrection to Receive the Divine Life

Christ in His incarnation took on a soulish body. Through resurrection He became a life-giving Spirit with a spiritual body, and like the air which is readily available, He is now ready to be received by those who would accept Him as their Lord and Savior.

On the night of His resurrection, the Lord Jesus came into the midst of the disciples and breathed into them, saying, Receive the Holy Spirit”. At that very moment, Christ breathed Himself as life into His disciples through the holy breath.

The Human Spirit and the Holy Spirit

The human spirit came into existence by God breathing His breath into man’s nostrils. The function of man’s spirit is for contacting the spiritual world, that is, to receive God into Him. But sad to say, the spirit of man was deadened due to his having sinned against God.

Yet thank the Lord, He came as a life-giving Spirit (1 Cor. 15:45) who gives life (John 6:63) to man’s deadened spirit. He will breathe His Spirit into you today to give you His divine, eternal life. You simply need to believe in your heart and open your mouth to pray and ask Him for this breath of fresh air:

Lord Jesus, I believe in You. Thank You for creating in me a human spirit for me to be able to receive You. Lord, right now I open my spirit to You. Come to me and breathe Your Spirit into me. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.”
