The Truth Shall Set You Free

William Wordsworth (1770-1850), an English poet, once wrote: “Alas! the fowls of heaven have wings, / And blasts of heaven will aid their flight; /…Chains tie us down by land and sea…” These lines express the yearning of man to soar through the skies like birds. Historically, a good number of people attempted to invent flying machines, but those efforts always ended in failure. Then in 1903, the Wright brothers successfully flew the airplane they invented into the sky. This was the first successful powered flight in human history.

The history of man desiring to do good is similar to the history of man wanting to fly. One thousand years ago, Chinese philosophers discovered that within man there is a “war between reason and lust.” People’s desire to do good is from their reason; their actual evil deeds are from their lust. For example, some have tried to establish a utopian world where everyone would have a universal love and everything would be shared by all. However, what they ended up doing is building up a system that would only benefit themselves.

In fact, as far back as two thousand years ago, in the book of Romans in the New Testament, the apostle Paul already came up with an accurate analysis of the wretched condition of man’s heart. He said: “To will is present with me, but to work out the good is not” (Rom. 7:18b). However, the Bible says, “The truth shall set you free” (John 8:32b). The truth is the Lord Jesus, who is the eternal life. Dear friend, as long as you believe in your heart and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you will immediately receive His divine, eternal life. The power of this life is divine, unlimited, and surpassingly great, and it is able to break the fetters of sin and overcome death and darkness. May you and your whole family being blessed by enjoying this extraordinary, free, and soaring life.

Let us pray: “Lord Jesus, I receive You as my Savior. Save me, be gracious to a sinner like me. Let me be freed from sins and from the bondage of the world and receive this eternal life.”
