Turns Out I Was Really Very Blessed

Dear friend, do you feel blessed?

If you wake up in the morning and find out that you can still breathe as you please, you are already more blessed than those who departed from the world this week. If you have never encountered the perils of war, the despondency in captivity, the agony from torture and the tribulations of famine, you are thus far better than 500 million people in the world. And if you have food in your refrigerator, enough clothes to put on, and a house to live in, by this you are  already richer than 70% of the world’s population.

According to the U. N. World Food Day statistics, there are currently 36 countries caught in a food crisis; 800 million are still hungry, with the shortage particularly serious in third world countries. In developing countries, 20% have inadequate food. In Africa, a third of the children suffer from chronic malnutrition. And world-wide, six million preschool children die of hunger every year!

If you have deposits in your bank account, cash in your wallet, you are by now ranked among the world’s richest eight percent. If your parents are still alive, and are not separated or divorced, you are so far belonging to minority group.

If you can lift your head, wear a smile on your face, and feel grateful in your heart, you are then truly blessed; because although most people can do this, they do not. And if you can hold one’s hand, hug someone or simply pat his shoulder, you are indeed blessed. Because what you can do is already comparable to what God can do.

Dear friend, if you can read this text, then all-the-more you are blessed. Are you not more blessed than the two billion who cannot read?

Seeing this, please lift your head, and seriously say to yourself: Wow! Turns out I was really  very blessed!

There is a passage in the Bible which says, “Because of this, I say to you, Do not be anxious for your life, what you should eat or what you should drink; nor for your body, what you should put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than clothing?… But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Therefore do not be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself; sufficient for the day is its own evil.”

Dear friend, not only are we more blessed than most people in the world. The Lord Jesus even wants to give us the heavenly, eternal blessing, which is the eternal, blessed life. What a blessing indeed!
